【摘要】:Thistestmethodprovidesameansofevaluatingexposurestobenzene-solubleparticulatematterinaconcentrationrangethatcanberelatedtooccupationalexposures.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesthesamplingandgravimetricdeterminationofbenzene-solubleparticulatematterthathasbecomeairborneasaresultofcertainindustrialprocesses.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtodeterminethetotalweightofbenzene-solublematerialsandtoprovideasamplethatmaybeusedforspecificanddetailedanalysesofthesolublecomponents.1.2Thelimitofdetectionis0.05mg/m3bysamplinga1-m3volumeofair.Note1Othervolatileorganicsolventshavebeenusedforthisdeterminationandwhereasalesstoxicsolventforthisanalysismightbedesirable,thesubstitutionofasolventotherthanbenzeneisunwiseatthistime.Atremendousvolumeofenvironmentalsamplingdatabasedonbenzene-solubledeterminationshasbeenaccumulatedovermanyyearsinseveralindustries.Someofthedeterminationshavebeenusedinepidemiologicalstudies.Furthermore,theuseofbenzeneisspecifiedinexistingfederalstandards.Asaresult,itappearsimprudenttouseadifferentsolventuntilthequalitativeandquantitativerelationshipofanalysesderivedfrombenzeneandasubstitutesolventisestablished.Withpropercare,benzenecanbesafelyusedinthelaboratory.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
